Biography

Wendt is Professor of Political Science and holder of the Ralph D. Mershon Chair in International Security at Ohio State University. His work challenges materialist interpretations of international relations and examines how identities, norms and intersubjective structures constitute the interests of states.

His book Social Theory of International Politics (1999) represents a fundamental contribution to constructivism. Subsequently, in Quantum Mind and Social Science (2015), he extended his research to the ontological foundations of the social sciences and the hypothesis of consciousness of a quantum nature. He received the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science in 2023.
