Biography

Italian philosopher and political theorist, a pivotal figure in operaismo and autonomist thought. A professor of Theory of the State at the University of Padua, he developed an extensive body of thought on Marxism, Spinoza’s philosophy, constituent power and transformations of labour.

He actively participated in Italian political movements during the 1960s and 1970s. His life and career were marked by imprisonment, exile in France and his return to Italy. His collaboration with Michael Hardt renewed the debate on global sovereignty, the multitude and the common, particularly following Empire (2000).
